Music Department Scholarships

**Important:

  • These scholarships are only available to students without a prior baccalaureate degree, unless otherwise noted.
  • Value $amounts are subject to change pending funds available.
  • Deadline for all scholarships unless otherwise noted: March 1

 

Colorado Mesa University Talent (Colorado) Grant - Music

Value: Up to $1,000

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be majoring in any area the Music program.

 

Colorado Mesa University Talent (Colorado) Grant - Music Theatre

Value: Up to $1,000

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be majoring in Music Theatre.

 

Jackie Cochran Borello Scholarship

Value: $1250
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be majoring in Music.
  • Preference given to students in Vocal Music program and those with financial need.

 

Howell Culbertson Music Scholarship

Value: $1000
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be majoring in the Music program (keyboard or vocal).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

Gormley Memorial Scholarship - Music

Value: $200
Criteria:

  • Colorado Mesa University full-time Junior or Senior majoring in Music/Strings Program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is a resident of Colorado, West of the Continental Divide and having financial need.

Robert "Bob" Grant Memorial Scholarship - Music

Value: In-state Tuition and Fees (maximum of 12 credit hours per semester)

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be majoring in Music.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Preference given to students pursuing a degree in Music Performance and limited to students whose primary instrument is a member of the string family, specifically violin, viola, cello and double bass.
  • Must audition for a panel consisting of at least two CMU String Faculty members.
  • Must be enrolled in the CMU Symphony Orchestra and must also be eligible to audition for the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.

 

Colorado Mesa University Distinguished Percussion Scholarship

Value: $1000

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be majoring in Music, with the major instrument being percussion.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0.

 

Moss Scholarships

Value: $1000
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be enrolled in the Dance, Theatre, or Vocal/Instrumental Music programs.
  • Minimum institutional cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Inez Hulting Petersen Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2,000
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior or Senior.
  • Must be majoring in English, Literature, or Music.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

William Eli and Wanda Wray Putnam Scholarship

  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior or Senior.
  • Must be majoring in Fine or Performing Arts, Natural Sciences, or Mathematics.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

Quick Temps Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fine and Performing Arts program.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado, and preference will be given to Western Slope residents.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0.
  • Preference will be given to upper-classmen.


Sandra Hays Sells Memorial Scholarship

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a graduate from De Beque, Palisade, Gateway, or Plateau Valley High School.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to students majoring in Language, Literature, & Communication, History or Music.

 

Sweet Adelines' Darlene Guerrie Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be majoring or minoring in vocal music or choral directing, music education, or vocal performance.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 for incoming high school students. Minimum 2.8 institutional GPA for returning CMU students.
  • Recepients will be required to participate in the Annual Sweet Adeline Show.

 

Moss Fairley Wagler Scholarship

Value:  $1500

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be majoring in Music.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
