General Scholarships

**Important:

  • These scholarships are only available to students without a prior baccalaureate degree, unless otherwise noted.
  • Value $amounts are subject to change pending funds available.
  • Deadline for all scholarships unless otherwise noted: March 1

 

American Association of University Women (AAUW),

Mary Rait/Mary Jewell Willsea Grant

Value: $1000 or as determined by the AAUW Scholarship Committee.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a non-traditional female student returning to college to earn a baccalaureate degree after some years of absence from the academic scene. (i.e. They may not have a previous bachelor's degree.)
  • Applicants must have completed 60 hours of credits by the end of the semester in which they apply.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

 

American Business Women Association (ABWA),

Grand Junction Charter Chapter Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Female Junior or Senior
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a resident of Mesa County, Colorado.
  • The recipients will be required to prepare and present a five-minute speech at the April meeting of the ABWA and must attend three (ABWA) meetings throughout the year.


Bacon Family Foundation Foreign Student Scholarship

Value: $4,000 ($2000 per semester) or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must show evidence of financial need

 

Boettcher Opportunity Award

Value: $3,000 or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be U.S citizen and a resident of the State of Colorado
  • Member of an 'under represented' (minority) group on campus
  • Class rank of Sophomore or higher
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

 

Brownson Memorial Leadership Scholarship - Minority

Value: $3500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado.
  • Member of an ethnic minority group.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.

 

Bruce and Louise Dixson Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Accumulated GPA between 2.0 and 3.5.
  • Must have history of self help.
  • Student athletes are not eligible for this scholarship.

 

Clair Clayton Scholarship (Handicap Award)

Value:  $1000

Criteria:

  • Scholarship awarded to a student handicapped as a result of an injury.
  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado.

 

Clifton Lions Club Scholarship

Value: $400 bookstore credit, or as determined by funds available.

Criteria: 

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior, Senior, or graduate student.
  • U.S. citizen and a resident of Mesa County for at least the immediate past two years.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

Harold E. Daniels Memorial Athletic Scholarship

Value: $1000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior or Senior
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Student athlete on one of the following CMU intercollegiate men's or women's sports: Softball, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, or Soccer.
  • Preference to students with financial need.

 

FirstBank of Colorado Low Income Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Principle address within the FirstBank service area of Colorado Springs to Ft. Collins; Aurora to Evergreen; or Vail, Avon, Breckenridge, Silverthorne and Greeley.
  • Preference given to low to moderate income applicants (based on information contained in the FAFSA form).
  • Students may reapply/renew the scholarship each year

 

40's Alumni Scholarship

Value: $250 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

 

Lew Goodhart Memorial Scholarship

Value: Two $1000 non-renewable scholarships will be awarded each year, or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must be a legal resident of the State of Colorado. Preference given to residents of western Colorado.
  • Must have completed at least 15 college credit hours at an institute of higher education.
  • Must have a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5.
  • Priority given to students with financial need.

Grand Junction New Car and Truck Dealer's Association

Value: $Amount determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Family member or employee of a member of the Grand Junction New Car and Truck Dealers Association.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Priority given to financail need.

 

Grand Junction Rotary Scholarship

Value: $1,000 but not to exceed tuition and student fees if awarded to a part time student or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Part-time or full-time students of Colorado Mesa University.
  • Priority given to students with financial need because of a special circumstance (major changes, i.e.: death in family, divorce, disadvantaged, or facing adversity)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Can be international student or U.S. citizen.

 

Grand Valley Scholarship

Value: $1000 ($500 per semester) or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Available to Colorado Mesa University part-time students who are 25+ years of age.
  • Must be a resident of Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Jackson, Mesa, Moffat, Montrose, Ouray, Pitkin, Rio Blanco, Routt, Summit, or San Miguel County.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Requires two letters of recommendation.

 

Ron Halsey Memorial Scholarship for Disabled Students

Value: $600 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a disabled student. Preference given to a student with a physical disability due to an accident related paralysis, multiple sclerosis, or severe vision or hearing impairment.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

 

Bryan Howard Scholarship (Associated Student Government)

Value:  $Amount determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to student involved in community service and/or civic involvement.
  • Must provide a letter describing justification for receiving this award.
  • Students serving on the selection committee or students in paid leadership position on campus are not eligible to apply.

 

Chris and Connie Jouflas Family Foundation Scholarship

Value: $Amount determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Part-time or full-time students of Colorado Mesa University.
  • Member of an Eastern Orthodox Christian religion.
  • Minimum institutional, cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • International students may apply.

 

Rachel Khumalo Book Scholarship

Value:  $1000 ($500 per semester) book voucher, or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.  Student must have documented financial need.

 

Lathrop Scholarship

Value: In-state tuition and fees for up to four years, maximum 12 credit hours per semester, or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must have graduated from a Western Slope, Colorado high school.
  • Preference will be given to students whose families make their living in farming or ranching and are actively involved in agricultural activities and enrolled in coursework supporting an agricultural career choice.

 

Grand Junction Lions Club - Kevin Wagner Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Non-traditional student (25 years old or older).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be a five-year resident of Mesa County, Colorado.
  • Preference given to students with financial need.

 

Joanna and Craig Little Scholarship

Value: $2000 ($1000 per semester) or as determined by funds available.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be a single mother with one or more children living with her.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Preference given to students with financial need.

 

Colorado Mesa University Alumni Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by Scholarship Committee and funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Senior
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to students with financial need.

 

Colorado Mesa University Emeriti and Retirees Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of freshman or sophomore in an Associate degree program or a Junior or Senior in a Baccalaureate degree program.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.

 

George and Masuo Nagatomo Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • A U.S. citizen of Asian (Amerasian) descent.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to a student of Japanese heritage. International students can be considered if no U.S. citizen applies. Any area of study except Theatre.

 

Orchard Mesa Lions Club Scholarship

Value: $1,000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Non-traditional student (25 years old or older).
  • Resident of Mesa County, Colorado for at least five years.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must demonstrate significant financial need.

 

NEWH Chapter Scholarships

Information and Application

Criteria:

  • Must have completed half the requirements for a degree or certification program in which enrolled
  • Must have real financial need
  • Must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A.
  • Must have a career objective in the Hospitality Industry (i.e., Hotel/Restaurant Management, Culinary, Food Service, Architecture, Design, etc.)

 

PEO Chapter N Community Scholarship

Value: $1,000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be of female gender.
  • Preference given to a Junior or Senior in any four-year degree program. A student in the second year of a two-year Associates degree program will be considered.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be a resident of Mesa County, Colorado.
  • Preference given to students with financial need (as determined by the Free Application For Federal Student Aid FAFSA and/or by specific explanation in student essay).

 

Redlands Lions Club Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Mesa County, Colorado for the past two years.

 

Rex Howell Memorial Fund Scholarship

Value: In-state tuition, fees, and book allowance (maximum of 12 credit hours per semester) or as determined by

            funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior or Senior.
  • Major within the Fine and Performing Arts Department or the Languages, Literature and Communications Department.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must demonstrate financial need. Preference given to an applicant who has demonstrated a history of self effort in financing college.


Josephine Roessler-Prinster Scholarship (Advancement Awards)

Value: In-state tuition, fees, and book allowance (maximum of 12 credit hours per semester) or as determined by

            funds available.
Criteria:

  • Available to students of Colorado Mesa University who are recommended by agencies concerned with domestic violence and Human Services programs (currently the Hilltop Community Resources, Inc., Latimer House Counseling and Advocacy Center).
  • Preference given to students with financial need, with prime consideration for those who must rely upon their personal efforts and resources to attain an education.


Saccomanno Higher Education Foundation Scholarship

Value: Determined by the Saccomanno Higher Education Foundation.
Criteria:

  • Available to students who are residents of Mesa County, Colorado, or Carbon County, Utah.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Strength of sincerity in pursuing higher education to improve their lives and those of others must be evident.

 

Howard E. "Maverick" Scott Scholarship

Value: $Amount determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Are you a "Maverick", willing to rock the boat, ask pointed questions or take unpopular positions to sustain your convictions? "Maverick" here does not mean an athlete on a Mesa team. It means someone willing to take an independent stand against popular opinion and offer positive alternatives. If you are this kind of boat rocker, this scholarship was endowed for you. Send along your experiences and actions which define you as an operative "Maverick".
  • If you do not meet this stringent criterion, please do not apply.
  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) or part-time(at least 6 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75.

 

Sandra Hays Sells Memorial Scholarship

Value: $1000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Graduate of De Beque, Gateway, Palisade, or Plateau Valley High School.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to students majoring in Language, Literature, Communications, History, or Music.


Sodexho Student Leadership and Service Scholarship

Value: $1000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Earned at least 24 credit hours of two consecutive semesters at CMU.
  • Eligible applicants must document having CMU campus living experience, or contracted campus dining experience, or have worked for Sodexho-Marriott dining services. Applicants will be considered on a basis of demonstrated leadership experience in the hospitality industry.

 

Carl and Betty Wahlberg Partners Scholarship

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be, or have been, an active Junior Partner of the Mesa County, Colorado Partners program.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Recipient may renew/reapply provided all requirements are met.

 

Western Colorado Chapter (WCC) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Scholarship

Value: $1,600 per academic year or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be an active or honorably discharged military service member or the child or grandchild of an active or honorably discharged military service member.

 

Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial Scholarship

Value: $1,500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be an active or honorably discharged military service member or the child or grandchild of an active or honorably discharged military service member.
  • Must have financial need and a record of civic and/or school activities.

 

Mattie Smith Wagler Scholarship

Value: $1000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be of female gender.
  • Minimum institutional cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Selection based on financial need, scholarship ability and seriousness of purpose and endeavor.

 

S.N. Wagler Scholarship

Value: $500 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Actively pursuing an Associate or Baccalaureate degree.
  • Preference given to students who otherwise might not have been able to secure a college education without encouragement and financial assistance.
  • Selection based on financial need, scholarship ability and seriousness of purpose and endeavor.

 

S. Victor Wagler Scholarship

Value: $Amount determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior or Senior.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in the field of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

 

Edith Kennedy Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2500 a year*

Criteria:

  • Must be entering Junior or Senior year of college
  • Must be currently enrolled in any accredited school of business in a 4-year Colorado Institution
  • Must be a United States Citizen

Mark Zoppel Scholarship

Value: $1,000 or as determined by funds available.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Must be an International student.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
