Financial Aid Application Steps

Students gathered around a laptop to conveniently fill out their online FAFSA application.

Step 1:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications can be filled out online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. *Keep in mind, Colorado Mesa University is still listed as Mesa State College on the FAFSA website on the school selection list. For speedier school selection, our school code is : 001358. There are FAFSA worksheets available in your financial aid office to assist you in filling out the web application. If you have any question or concerns about filling out your online FAFSA application, please contact the Colorado Mesa University Office of Financial Aid 970.248-1396.

Step 2:

In 2-3 weeks from the date that you completed and submitted the FAFSA, it will be reviewed and processed by the financial aid office to determine whether you are eligible for need-based assistance. Your calls are encouraged in order to check the status of your online application, but please wait the estimated time before inquiring.

Step 3:

If additional documentation is necessary, the financial aid office will be contacting you via mail and/or email with the request. If no extra documentation is needed, you will receive an "Award Letter" in the mail if you are a first-time student. Otherwise, you will be awarded on your MavZone account.

Step 4:

Return the award letter to the Financial Aid Office accepting or rejecting each item on the award, or accept/decline your award through MavZone. You may mail your signed award letter to:
