Biological Sciences Department Scholarships

  • These scholarships are only available to students without a prior baccalaureate degree, unless otherwise noted.
  • Value $amounts are subject to change pending funds available.
  • Deadline for all scholarships unless otherwise noted: March 1

Colorado Mesa University Academic (Colorado) Scholarship -

Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Value: Up to $1,000

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.


Dr. Richard Ballard Endowed Scholarship

Value: $500

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Student must be enrolled in or declare their intent to enroll in upper division courses including Plant Sciences, Mycology and/or Entomology with a major in Biological, Environmental, Geological, Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Education.

 

Dixson Scholar Mentor Award

Value: $2,000

Explanation:

This award provides a meaningful work/training experience between the Scholar (student) and Mentor  (supervising faculty member). The Scholar benefits financially and practically as he/she assists the Mentor in his/her teaching and research endeavors, and the Mentor benefits from the assistance. Award may be continued until graduation of recipient if scholar/mentor/project is approved by the Department Head.

Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Class rank of Junior is preferred. An outstanding Sophomore may be considered.
  • Must be enrolled in any of the Natural Sciences.
  • Preference given to motivated individuals with high aspirations and academic performance.
  • who demonstrate with financial need and demonstrating academic performance.

 

David M. Gardner Memorial Scholarship

Value: In-state tuition and fees (maximum of 12 credit hours per semester), plus $250 book allowance.
Criteria:

  • Must attend Colorado Mesa University full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Must be a graduated of a Mesa County (Colorado) High School.
  • Must be enrolled in any of the Natural Sciences.

 

Dr. Henry H. and Margaret Zeigel Scholarship

Value: $750
Criteria:

  • Class rank of Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • Must be enrolled in programs of Pre-Medicine (Biology, etc) or Nursing.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
