Snow Removal

General Information

Snow will be removed from all walking surfaces on campus, according to priorities established by the Director of Facilities Services. The Facilities Department Landscape Design & Sustainability Manager will coordinate snow removal operations. In his absence, the Director of Facilities Services will assume that duty.

Snow removal will usually begin at 6:00 a.m. If snow is still falling, the decision to begin removal or not will be made by the Landscape Design & Sustainability Manager or, in his absence, the Director of Facilities Services.

Off duty employees are not expected to report for snow removal unless contacted by their supervisor. Employees reporting for snow removal are required to sign in on the Snow Removal Duty Sheet posted in the Facilities shop hallway.

Snow Removal Procedures

Facilities personnel will remove snow from the following areas, in order of priority:

  • Main walk through the center of campus (Houston to Saunders)
  • Walks and stairs around student resident halls
  • Steps to the University Center, Maverick Center and the south side of Houston Hall
  • Ramps to Lowell Heiny Hall, Medesy and the ACB building

  • Perimeter walks
  • ADA parking spaces

Notes:

  • If events are scheduled during breaks, special attention will be put on designated areas.
  • If snow should fall on weekends, priority will be put on entrances to all buildings.
  • Snow removal plans are always in force during weekends students are on campus.
  • Sand will be used on ice and frosted areas after snow is removed.
  • Snowstorms with 4 inches or more snow accumulation, a walking path will be plowed through all parking lots.
