Gary Looft received a certificate from the Commercial Trade Institute. He is currently a technical instructor of transportation services at Western Colorado Community College where he teaches Oxy-Fuel and Plasma Arc Cutting, introduction to Welding, Diesel Fuel Injection, Diesel Engine Controls, Air Systems Repair and Service, Body and Chassis controls, Engine Performance / Emissions, Automatic Drive Train Service, Diesel Engine Reconditioning and Heavy Duty Suspension.

Looft began his career as an automotive technician in 1963, then progressed from automotive to diesel technology and heavy equipment. He then transitioned into management of heavy duty parts and repair facility. Looft began his teaching career in 1985 at CMU, teaching the heavy equipment and diesel technology at the south campus. In 1993 he moved to the Bishop campus and began teaching automotive, diesel and management courses. In 2012 he became Department Head for Manufacturing and Industrial Service at the Bishop campus. Looft is an avid racing fan, and loves working with wood to build custom handcrafted furniture and cabinets.
