Benjamin Keefer, PhD, is the lead faculty member for the agriculture program offered through Western Colorado Community College. He teaches coursework in agriculture business, animal science and plant science.
Keefer most enjoys the interaction with students who have an interest in exploring the possibilities of engaging in the future production of food for humanity. In his instruction, he strives to provide students with the most recent science and best management options so they are prepared to not only become engaged in the production of food, but can also adjust to the ever-changing social, environmental and market demands.
Keefer grew up near Eldorado Springs, Colo., and presently lives near Montrose. His personal agricultural background includes experience in both livestock and crop production. He is presently becoming engaged in producing hops.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Keefer enjoys a variety of athletic/recreational activities including climbing, skiing and golf. Keefer serves as a referee for the sport of wrestling at the collegiate and high school levels.
Keefer is married to Shelly and has two adult-age children.
