Biography

Nancy A. Banman, PhD, received her BSW from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. She went on to receive her MSW from the University of Kansas and her PhD from Bryn Mawr College School of Social Work & Social Research. An Associate Professor, Banman serves as the BSW Program Director and currently teaches: SOWK 150 Introduction to Social Work; SOWK 365 Intervention 1; SOWK 385 Intervention 3; Intervention 2; and Social Welfare Policy.

Prior to coming to CMU, Banman was at Colorado State University (CSU) as an Assistant Professor of Social Work teaching in both the BSW and MSW programs. During her tenure at CSU she served as a CSU Extension State Specialist working with the leadership teams in family and consumer science and community development. Her experience with CSU Extension allowed Banman to travel to many rural areas of Colorado and work with local community members. Banman also served as the Director for the Center for Life-long Learning and Outreach Education for the CSU School of Social Work. Most recently Banman was the BSW Program Director at Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio.

Banman’s practice includes clinical work in rural areas, and facilitation of group processes leading to organizational and community change. Her research interests include the arts as instruments of social change and social work’s role in climate change adaption within communities.
