Adrienne Bethancourt, DSN, received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University and went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Doctorate of Science in Nursing in Curriculum, Consultation and Parent-Child Nursing at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. Bethancourt teaches Introduction to Health Care Professions and Pediatric Nursing, among other courses.
Bethancourt has been teaching nursing for more than 30 years, predominantly at the baccalaureate level, specializing in pediatrics, leadership and management and global health/international nursing. Bethancourt was previously Dean of Nursing and Allied Health at a community college in Louisiana for two years before accepting a position at Loyola University-New Orleans in the Health Care Systems Management MSN program. Since moving to Colorado in 2012, she has been teaching in the baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs. She is the director of the accelerated Academic Partnership RN to BSN online program. Bethancourt is taking course work in the Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner program at CMU to earn her DNP.
In the classroom, Bethancourt uses a variety of active teaching strategies in her classes including individual and small group work, presentations, 'grand rounds' for critical thinking and laboratory rodeos for hands-on nursing care practice. She encourages community service projects and active service learning. She employs online D2L in every class and is currently providing a distance learning class to remote CMU campus. Although busy with work projects, she enjoys biking, swimming, skiing (both downhill and cross country), music, yoga and international nursing mission trips.
