CMU-Vietnam Friendship Link

beach photo from VietnamEven the youngest CMU students may know that the U.S. military fought in Vietnam, though few know much more about the country.  The Vietnamese have not forgotten the war, either, but in Vietnam as well, an entire generation has grown up in the postwar period.  Both countries are faced with the challenge of remembering the past (so as not to be “doomed to repeat it”) while embracing the present and future.

This website serves all of these aims.

The CMU Library holds an abundance of materials on the Vietnamese past and present, here summarized in a comprehensive bibliography.

You can also read about former Library Director Betsy Brodak’s experiences as a librarian at the Long Binh Post libraries (early 1970s) and her memories of the various people she met and places visited.

More recently (Spring 2009), Dr. Clare Boulanger spent five months in Vietnam on a Fulbright lectureship at the University of Da Nang, and shares some photos (this is a Powerpoint file) as well as her letters home and journal excerpts.

We would like to invite you to take full advantage of the learning opportunities available on the site.  Xin cam on!
